- LPG Mounded Storage Vessels (MSV) are fully covered with soil, with only the manhole, dome, and other nozzles protruding.
- The risk of BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion) is eliminated, as fire is not possible beneath the tanks.
- The mound is difficult for external agencies to identify as a storage facility.
- Mounded storage vessels have reduced fire case PSV loads compared to above-ground storage tanks and spheres.
- The fire water requirement for mounded storage is lower.
- The vessels are sloped at a minimum of 1:200 for drainage purposes.
- The mound cover protects the vessels from heat radiation from nearby fires, pressure waves from explosions, impacts from flying objects, and sabotage.
- The site area required is less compared to above-ground storage due to less stringent interspacing requirements.
