The storage of hazardous gases (LPG/Propane/Propylene/Butane) has become increasingly challenging. One effective solution is the use of mounded bullets (Mounded Storage Vessel – MSV). The design of mounded storage vessels is more complex than that of conventional above-ground spheres or bullets.
Mounded bullets are horizontal pressure vessels designed for the pressurized storage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) / Propane / Propylene at ambient temperature. In a mounded storage facility, a mound of earth or suitable inert material is used to cover the bullet, which remains above ground.
Mounded bullet installations are more space-efficient than spheres or above ground bullets, owing to the reduced vessel-to-vessel spacing and the smaller safety distance required between the mounded storage vessels and structures such as control rooms, buildings, Firefighting system and roads. Additionally, mounded bullets offer the potential for partial or complete off-site construction. These bullets are installed on sand bed foundations or concrete pedestal foundation, which distribute the load evenly to the underlying sand or concrete pedestal.
